Question about auto accident – insurance company paying 65%?
I was in a minor accident a few months ago. The other party’s insurance company agreed to pay 65% of the repairs. We got a quote from one of their “certified” repair places, but we want to take the car someplace that we choose. The company is sending me a check with my name and the body shop.
Will I still be able to deposit the check in my bank account and write a personal check or use my debit card for the repairs since I have to pay 35% out of my own pocket?
Thanks.
Most likely, no. If it is a two party check then one of you (probably you) has to sign it, then the other can sign and deposit it. The probably intended that you take the check to the shop, and explain the situation, signing the check over to them. Then that you would pay the remainder in whatever way you choose.
$46 million and counting

I’m looking for a reliable Tucson auto glass shop in Arizona. I’ve had some really bad experiences with other windshield repair and replacement shops in Tucson and I’m just wondering if anyone has had better luck than me.
Hi Melanie,
I know where you’re coming from. I’ve had some really unpleasant experiences myself with not one but two auto glass services in Tucson.
To answer your question though… I’ll refer you to a gentleman by the name of Daniel from http://autoglassreplacementtucson.com. He’s a very honest guy and can repair or replace your windshield for a very reasonable price. His number is 520-869-8624.

2001 Toyota Solara Convertible Top Rear Window Stuck?
I bought a 2001 Toyota Solara Convertible a few months ago (used, as is – no problems so far) and I yesterday when I went to put the top back up, the rear window got stuck and tore from the top. I tried putting some epoxy glue on it but the glass was too heavy, it didn’t work. I was out of town and didn’t want any rain coming in so I taped it up with some Gorilla tape and that held it up for the majority of the 10 hour car ride home. My question is how do I go about getting this fixed. I do not believe I should need a new top or new window, as they are both in good condition. Is there a stronger glue I can try or who do I take it to (what type of auto repair shop, glass or upholstery or someone else) get it fixed? Also, about how much should this cost? Thanks for the help.
Let’s lay some groundwork here. Your top and window unit are two separate parts. If you removed the top, the entire window unit would remain on the car. The window unit consists of the glass and the material surrounding it that enables one to attach the glass to the car.
You say that your window got “Stuck” and “Tore” from the top. Was the glass unit in good shape? If so, the first step is to find out why it got stuck. Did it really “Tear” the material? If so, you need a window unit and some frame repairs.
Was the glass coming loose from the cloth and jammed somewhere? That is not unusual and is addressed by replacing the window unit, about $225.00, in the box at info@topgunwon.com. Re-gluing it almost never works. When it does, it seldom lasts long. If you insist on trying it, this is how you do it. Remove the window unit from the car. On a workbench, position the glass in the cloth pocket of the window unit. Fill the pocket with the same urethane adhesive that is used to glue windows to cars. Get it from a glass shop. Clamp the material to the glass. How you do that is your call. You will probably have to be inventive, Let it set for 36 hours. Reinstall the window unit.

This was so mean. I had my car keyed on my friend’s block, and the worse part is that I don’t know anyone on that block! My car was only 5 days old (it didn’t even have plates on it yet) and when I came back to it, I immediately noticed a deep scratch on the driver’s door and an almost identical on the passenger’s door. I couldn’t help the tears because the worse part is that I did nothing to deserve this. Are there any auto body repair experts that would be able to tell me how much this will cost? The scratches are about 9 inches long, and they definitely went deep. My car is a 2007 Ford Edge in a very dark gray (I think the color is charcoal) and I live on Staten Island, New York. Thank you so much.
Well being a partner in a body sop business I do feel for you pain.
First get a baseball bat and whack any punk that comes near it.
Then take it to the dealer….the salesman….show him the scratch and you emotions do come into play here. that;s your new baby and someone kicked it….it’ll cost but you don’t need to repaint the doors and a “good” touch up and buffing will not promote rust. look at the scratch I bet you can see an odd color like green or red. that is the primer and the E-coating. If no metal is visible then you are OK and it won’t rust. You will be out about 500-900 bucks depending on how they feel about your emotions…..
Oh ya Staten Island hire a body guard for the car…

[mage lang="en|en" source="flickr"]How To Repair Auto Paint Chips[/mage] How much to repair a paint chip on car?
How much is the general price for repairing a very very very tiny chip on my car? I just bought this car brand new about a month ago and scratched it a bit on the side view mirror. I am just very anal about this itty bitty chip because it is a brand new car! I don’t want to get ripped off, so I would like to know what is the average cost for something so small, maybe even the smallest repair auto body job? I’m just hoping it won’t cost me more than a $100!
The chip is the part of the paint that is missing, so you don’t repair that. You repair the nick (sometimes called a ding). It’s the damage you see on the car when a chip of paint is missing.
You can do it with touch-up paint. It’s a small container of auto paint available at the auto dealership. The container is about the size of a bottle of nail polish. The cap to the container has a little paint brush in it just like the brush in a nail polish bottle. Just put a little dab on the car nick (or ding) and let it dry. Don’t try to paint the nick like you would your nails. Just give the nick a little dab and let it dry. It doesn’t look like a professional job if you look at it with a magnifying glass, but no one does that. It all blends in, and no one notices. The costs of the item is $10 or less. When you try to purchase the item, they’ll ask you for the color code. It’s on your car. Usually on a plate that lists other information about your car. The plate is usually located on the door edge or door pillar. If you can’t find it, they’ll come out and read it for you.
Paint jobs are usually a minimum of $200, no matter how infinitely small the ding is. That work makes the ding look like it never happened, but it’s not worth it. Try the $10 approach. I’ve done it a number of times, and nobody notices all the dings I’ve fixed.
Addendum:
You’re welcome gibbyguys–I have a 2004 Ranger right now and have touched up at least a half dozen dings on it over the past years. People seem to like to ding me for some reason. I received the touch-up paint free in the mail from Ford a short time after I bought the truck (new). It was a thank you gift for giving them my business.

How do I know which part I need to repair on my 2005 Hyundai Accent?
I have a 4 door 2005 Hyundai Accent. Any time I turn on my air conditioning or heating system on any speed (1=lowest, 4=highest), I hear a strange clicking sound. I hear the noise coming from the air vents. The noise sounds like a leaf stuck inside of the air vents and it is making a rattling sound. I have been listening to this sound for a few months now and don’t know what problem is creating this sound. I have not had the time to take my car in to an auto mechanic to have it looked at to find out what is wrong. I plan on visiting an auto parts store to purchase the correct part to solve this problem and fix it myself when I have the time. Would you be able to tell me what part I need to purchase to fix this problem please? Thank you for your help.
if air is blowing from vents something might have fallen in to vent and is hitting fan blade,if no air from vent only noise sounds like fan is no good and needs replacing.
